Foundation Apprenticeships are a work-based learning opportunity for any of our senior phase pupils in S5 or S6. These courses form part of our partnership with Forth Valley College and delivery takes place at the college or in one of the secondary schools within Falkirk Council. Courses can last either one or two years and time is mixed between study and a work placement with a local employer. The Foundation Apprenticeship forms part of a pupil’s curriculum alongside their other subjects within school. Successful completion of a Foundation Apprenticeship leads to a qualification viewed by most Universities as the equivalent of a Higher at an A or B level. As well as this qualification pupils develop knowledge, skill and work experience which will help to broaden options post school.

Key Information for Pupils

• FA is equivalent to a Higher (see attached picture for further information)
• FA’s are at SCQF Level 6
• 1 & 2 year options for most courses although this can vary between areas
• To access FA’s you should be working towards a minimum of two Highers over S5 & S6
• Application process which may include an interview
• You will undertake assessments throughout the course
• Travel to and from college (or delivery school) is provided
