Developing the Young Workforce has been a seven-year programme that aims to better prepare children and young people from 3–18 for the world of work. It has a focus on improving work experience, careers information, advice and guidance and providing greater access to vocational learning. This programme builds on the foundations already in place as part of Curriculum for Excellence. The programme’s headline aim was to reduce youth unemployment by 40% by 2021.

Bo’ness Academy also works closely with Skills Development Scotland and DYW Forth Valley and information about these partnerships is also included.

Young Person's Guarantee

The Young Person's Guarantee is a Scottish Government commitment to bring together employers, partners and young people. It aims to connect every 16 to 24 year old in Scotland to the opportunity of a job, placement, training or volunteering with employers committed to the Guarantee.

Bo'ness Academy's support of the Young Person's Guarantee includes;

  • Working with partners to ensure all young people are supported in their preparation for the world of work
  • Having a pupil centred approach in planning to support pupils into positive and sustained destinations
  • Embedding the Career Education Standard to support pupils in making clear links between education and employment
  • Develop pupil’s knowledge and understanding of employer expectations and the skill and qualities required to succeed in the world of work
  • Create meaningful partnerships to inspire future careers

School Coordinator

As part of the Young Person's Guarantee every secondary school will have a dedicated school coordinator. This role will include the responsibility of forging links with employers and creating increased opportunities for work-based learning for pupils.

For session 2024/2025 this role will be taken on by Miss K Henderson.
