Time at Bo’ness Academy: 2011 – 2017

What have you gone on to do after leaving Bo’ness Academy?

I am currently studying an LLB Honours Degree in Scottish Law at the University of Stirling.

What has been your favourite part of your course so far?

University as a whole is a great and challenging experience, and it is hard to pick a favourite.

However, if I had to, I would say my favourite part has been meeting so many different people from all over the world and also studying the different law modules which I find very interesting.

What are you planning to do at the end of your course?

At the end of my four years at Stirling, I will go on to do a 5th year called a Diploma in Professional Legal Practise at a different university. After this I will hopefully do my two-year traineeship at a law firm. When the two years of being a trainee are finished, I will be a fully qualified solicitor and be licensed to practise law in Scotland.

What school subjects have helped so far in your career plans?

One of the most beneficial school subjects for my chosen career was Modern Studies. This was really the first time I had studied an area of the law as I based my higher assignment on Human Rights. This also helped me in my other law modules.

What advice would you offer to any pupils when they are choosing subjects at school?

Take your time in thinking about the subjects you are choosing and how they relate to your chosen career path. Also make sure you have chosen a wide range of different subjects, especially if you’re unsure of what you would like to do when you leave school. Lastly, choose the ones you think would benefit you and you would enjoy most.

Most universities are looking for Highers’, not advanced Highers’, so keep this in mind when selecting subjects.
