"Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it." (Philosopher George Santayana)
In the History department we believe in teaching pupils how to think, not what to think. The best historians are inquisitive and have the courage to question things! We believe that History develops key skills such as: literacy, critical thinking, communication, the ability to interpret and summarise information, the ability to consider issues from a range of perspectives, the ability to use evidence to craft complex and sophisticated arguments and the ability to empathise with others. These skills are essential for life, learning and work, which is why a History qualification is always highly prized by employers, colleges and universities. As well as acquiring these valuable skills, we hope that our students have fun along the way!
