Pupils are assessed at the end of each topic on their Knowledge and Understanding and Enquiry Skills. This information is used to track the progress of each pupil and to give feedback to both pupils and parents as necessary. A Prelim Examination is given during January of S4 to give the pupils the opportunity to sit exams similar to their final SQA Exam in May and to provide estimate grades for the SQA.

Homework is issued on a regular basis to consolidate the work done in class and to answer questions from past exam papers and Supported Study sessions are offered in the run up to both the Prelim and final exams

S5/6

Pupils can continue their studies in Modern Studies in S5/6.
They have the opportunity to gain qualifications in Intermediate and Higher Modern Studies and depending on the numbers Advanced Higher.
Pupils study a mixture of UK and International issues and are assessed on their Knowledge and Understanding and ability to evaluate and analyse sources.

At Higher level students undertake a Decision Making exercise and at Advanced Higher have to produce a written dissertation.

Courses are assessed by formal internal assessments (referred to as NABs) and a final exam. In order for a pupil to achieve a final grade at their chosen level they must pass all of the internal assessments and the final exam.
A Prelim Examination is given in February to give the pupils the opportunity to sit exams similar to their final SQA Exam in May and to provide estimate grades for the SQA.

Regular homework is provided to consolidate course work and Supported Study sessions are offered in the run up to both the Prelim and final exams.
