Welcome to the Library, the school's learning resource centre.The School Librarian is Mrs S Hitchen The Library is situated on the first floor above the office suite and offers a bright, pleasant and stimulating learning environment for all pupils. It holds a wide range of books and other material to support the curriculum and has a varied selection of both teenage and adult fiction suitable for all reading abilities. The library is fully equipped as a classroom with TV/Video facilities and has a suite of computers with Internet access.
Opening Times The Library is open Tuesday - Thursday 8.40am - 12.50 and 13.20 - 16.00 Loans GOOD NEWS : from January 2007 a library card is no longer required to borrow books. Pupils in S1 and S2 may borrow 2 books at a time, pupils in S3 3 books and pupils in S4 4 books at a time. Senior students are allowed 5 books out at a time. The loan period is 14 days.
The librarian assists and guides the pupils in building effective research skills and advises on appropriate recreational reading. Classes often use the library for project work during school hours. In order to promote the benefits of personal reading S1 and S2 pupils have timetabled library periods as part of the English studies. Extended opening time outside school hours give pupils the opportunity to do individual research and homework. The librarian encourages pupils to participate in "Shadowing the Carnegie" in which a group of pupils read and discuss the books on the shortlist for the Carnegie medal in May/June every year. In addition, for pupils interested in reading there is a book club which meets every Monday at lunchtime in the library.
