The main aim of the group is to make pupils and staff aware of the need to recycle as much as possible, in order to reduce the amount of waste from the premises. Increased recycling means a cleaner, more pleasant environment for all. Less waste going to landfill and more goods being reused will ultimately lead to a decrease in the price of goods.

Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday during registration the hardworking group covers the entire school collecting blue bags from classrooms which contain paper for recycling.
Further efforts to protect the environment include the recycling of plastic and tin. Volunteers regularly empty the bins containing these items and sort through them, making them suitable to be sent for recycling. Furthermore, foodstuffs are now being recycled in the staffroom with the aid of the green cones – food waste is collected in baskets and then deposited in the cones where worms and other insects feast on the deposits.

Anyone helping with recycling on a regular basis is entitled to go on the reward trips which are held regularly throughout the school year.

Further information about Ecoschools is available from Ms McIntyre or Miss Cairney.
A huge thank you to Tesco for their generosity for donating trolleys to aid our paper collection and to
all the pupils involved in this worthwhile task
Currently the school has already achieved Silver Flag status from Eco Schools Scotland - an international initiative designed to encourage whole school action for the environment. To achieve the award the school had to achieve the seven elements of the Eco Schools process that include having a committee, an eco-code, an action plan and involvement of the whole school and wider community. The Eco-School committee is now in pursuit of the coveted Green Flag.
Anyone interested in becoming involved in Eco-Schools should come along to the meetings which are regularly advertised in the bulletin.
As a reward for all their hard work organising the paper
collection in the school the pupils involved went to the Indoor Go Karting
in Livingston
