Careers InformationFinding a suitable career can be a daunting task but in Bo'ness Academy there are several initiatives geared at helping students do just that. Some pupils have a very clear idea of what they want to do when they leave school and can receive advice on the best ways to achieve their choice of career from members of staff. Others have no idea what they want to do and need help and advice to find a course or form of employment best suited to their talents and abilities. Below are some ideas of where to start to plan a suitable career. The Careers Adviser, Mr Tocher is in school on Wednesday mornings and all day Friday and can give advice on courses, apprenticeships, qualifications etc. Appointments can be made for those in S4 - S6. Drop in sessions are available for all pupils on Friday lunchtimes. The noticeboard outside the library holds a wealth of information on available courses and career opportunities.
For students who would like a career in science, health and medicine there is the WHAP programme organised by Mr Robertson. Information on University Courses can be accessed through the UCAS site We have compiled a list of courses not accessed through UCAS and useful career information to give students ideas for careers
Visit the Careers Scotland website for useful information The Planit Plus website gives advice on careers and lifelong learning The Internet holds a wealth of information and if used correctly can help considerably in career choices. Many companies have websites - look them up and see what the companies expect of potential employees and what they offer to you. Some firms who offer opportunities to school leavers
