Meals are provided by Scholarest, the catering company
which serves all of the Falkirk Schools Project schools. Pupils use their
Young Scot Card to pay for their meals - no cash changes hand in the
meals area. Pupils who are entitled to free school meals have their
card charged automatically each day. All pupils can put money on
to their cards either by putting coins in the machines located in the
Assembly Hall or by handing in notes or cheques to the school office.
Paying by cheque ensures that money cannot be lost or stolen and guarantees
that money is actually spent on school meals. Young Scot cards are issued
to all pupils and can also be used to obtain discounts in local shops
- for more information visit the Young
Scot website
Hungry for Success
Hungry for Success is a healthy eating initiative that has been introduced
in schools throughout Scotland. It is funded by the Scottish Executive
and aims to provide healthy and nutritious school meals for pupils of
all ages. It also seeks to promote information about health food
choices.
New
menus have been introduced to Bo'ness Academy this session. Recipes
used incorporate healthier cooking methods and healthier ingredients
i.e. grilling instead of frying, no added salt and sweetener used in
recipes instead of sugar. Healthy Choice sandwiches, Meal Deals and drinks
are offerred at reasonable prices but in response to pupils requests
items are also sold separately
The Deli Bar serves an exciting range of breads with a choice of fillings
and salad and Pasta King offers pasta pots with a selection of tasty
sauces (including a vegetarian option) plus in addition there are meal
deals. Freshly baked pizzas are now also on offer

Free School Meals
Some of our pupils who are entitled to free school meals are not using
their daily allowance. Each pupil has a ‘Hub’ Card
and £1.55p is credited to the card at 11.45 a.m. on a daily basis. Pupils
can then take a meal to the value of £1.55p or they can also put
additional money on the card if they require extra. The use of
the ‘Hub’ Card means that there is no ‘stigma’ attached
to receiving a free school meal as other pupils will not be aware of
the circumstances. If your child is entitled to a free school meal,
please encourage them to use it.
Using the Hub : If you want to have lunch in the hub
then you must remember your card. You will only be served if you have
your card and you can only buy one meal a day with your card.
If you have lunch in the hub you should :
- use your own card to buy your own food
- wait in line - even if you have pre-ordered a baguette
- not jump the queue
- not take food outside the Hub at lunchtime or at break
- clear your table after your lunch and put your rubbish in the bins
provided
- report any problems with your card to the school office
If you follow the above points then the Hub will be an enjoyable place
to have lunch.
