In Standard Grade History assessments are given at the end of every topic to monitor the progress of each pupil and develop their Enquiry Skills. This information is used to track the progress of each pupil and to give feedback to both pupils and parents as necessary. Exams are given at the end of S3 and an Estimate Grade Examination is given during January of S4 to give the pupils the opportunity to sit exams under similar conditions to their final SQA Exam in May. Homework is issued on a regular basis to consolidate the work completed in class. During S4 pupils are given the opportunity to complete past paper questions on a regular basis to develop their exam technique. Pupils can continue their studies in History in S5/6. Depending on numbers pupils have the opportunity to gain qualifications in Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2, Higher History and Advanced Higher. Regular homework is provided to consolidate course work. Courses are assessed by formal internal assessments and a final exam. The internal assessments are produced by the National Assessment Bank (NAB). In order for a pupil to successfully achieve a final grade at their chosen level all 3 NAB’s must be passed along with the final exam.
