Curriculum Information

S1/2

Pupils cover a science course which contains Chemistry, Physics and Biology. Topics are taught in mixed ability groups with relevant materials / coursework being given to meet each pupil's individual needs. This is in line with 5 -14 Environmental Studies.
Topics covered include living things, energy, materials, cells and reproduction and electricity among others.

Homework is given on a regular basis and pupils are given tests to keep track of their progress.

S3/4

At the present time the Chemistry Dept. offers SQA courses at the following levels :
Standard Grade - Credit and General ; and NQ levels - Intermediate 1 and Access 3
These courses allow pupils of all abilities to study Chemistry during S3 and S4.
Topics covered include elements in the periodic table, fuels, acid and alkalis and plastics.

Homework is given on a regular basis to consolidate the work completed in class. Supported study time is also available.

S5/6

Pupils can continue their studies in Chemistry in S5/6 bby building on their prior knowledge. Depending on numbers pupils have the opportunity to gain qualifications in Intermediate 1 / 2 or Higher Chemistry. Pupils who have achieved a good grade at Higher may progress to Advanced Higher.

Again regular homework and supported study is provided to consolidate course work
