The Chinese
Lantern Festival
One of the many events planned to enhance pupil knowledge
of Chinese culture in a bid to maintain and strengthen our links with
Shuangshi Middle School in Xiamen, China was a trip to the Botanic Gardens
in Edinburgh for the Chinese Lantern Festival.
Six Academy pupils, Lily Lu, Kyle Rowan, Ryan Skelding,
Samantha Cargill, Emily Fulton and Gary Bryson together with April McIntyre
from Graeme High School and four teachers Mrs Taylor, Mrs Bryce and
Mrs Craw travelled to Edinburgh in the school minibus driven by Ms McIntyre
who pleads please donate to our minibus fund!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pupils had the opportunity to make their own wish on paper
water lilies using their origami skills before floating them on a very
picturesque pond
They also learned about popular plants and drank some
very unusual tea
Our trip to the Botanic Gardens
I was really excited to have the opportunity to visit
the Chinese exhibition at Edinburgh Botanic Gardens!
We arrived at the Gardens in high spirits as the minibus
ride had been great fun. As we entered the Gardens we were greeted by
our friendly tour guide who showed us around the beautiful glasshouses.
The atmosphere was amazing - the warm smell of plants
and the glow from the Chinese Lanterns gave the tour a very exotic feeling.
Also the sound effects that followed you around the dimly lit and misty
rooms made the whole experience one to remember.
I thoroughly enjoyed my day at the Botanic Garden; from
the many photo opportunities to the floating of the origami flowers on
the pond, every moment was special.
