Memory Board

Many ex-pupils and ex-members of staff are finding their way to our website and are contacting the school with their memories of the time they spent in Bo'ness Academy. If you have any special memories of the school or any photographs you would like to share please send them to us and we will be pleased to include them on this page

I've just got into the internet and discovered Bo'ness Academy website
while looking for information on my great grandparents' whereabouts.

As music interests me very much (I sing with a couple of choruses) it
was interesting to see how Bo'ness Academy has come on in the
music department since I was there (started in 1962). The music
teacher at that time was Miss Salmon. I seem to remember the only
instruments taught at that time were recorder and violin. I don't recall
there being a choir, as if there had been I would probably have joined
it. I had been in the choir at the Grange School and I remember going
to Grangemouth for a contest of some kind.

Bo'ness Academy didn't teach music as an "O" grade or "Higher" grade
subject at that time. More's the pity! it might have been something I
would have managed to pass!

It's good to see such a big improvement and it obviously makes things
much more interesting for the pupils " meaning they'll enjoy learning
too!

'Other things I remember about the Academy were the headmaster
was Mr Leckie, with Mr Wiseman being deputy. Mr Leckie was ill and
Mr Wiseman deputised for a while. Miss Stenhouse was in the
Science department, as was Mr Valance who went on to be
headmaster at Deanburn primary school. Big Daz taught maths (it's
difficult to remember his real name now! Mr McCue?).

Thanks for the memories.

Diana Gilligan (nee Grant)

PS don't bother looking up my academic achievements "I got one "O"
level (1965)" in English. I've done much better since leaving school "
it's amazing how you wish you'd paid more attention when you had the
chance.

Do you remember Gardner Fiddes ?

Gardner Fiddes

I was a former pupil many years ago from 1975 to 1979. I lived in Mingle Place for over seventeen years before moving to Blair Avenue for some years, I then moved to the Falkland Island initially for six weeks.

Before coming to the islands, I managed Burns the butchers but had a complete change of direction when I moved to the islands.

I am now the Chief Fire Officer for the Falkland Islands Government and invite any of your pupils or staff to visit the Web sites below or contact me direct.

Best Wishes Gardner Fiddes
